What I am calling the “Monomyth” – the One (mono) Story (myth) – is not a new or original idea. If you care for context, a good entry-level accounting is given here.
I am using the Monomyth as model to process and analyze what might be called “Clown World” – particularly in 2024 through the US presidential election. What I mean by this is, the Monomyth is a useful tool (model) in the same way, say, classical mechanics is a useful tool (model) – it won’t get you the whole way there – shit, half the picture might be missing (quantum) – but as far as macro-scale (read: human-relative) motions go, its as good a model as there is for proving existential context (where you are) and making useful, testable predictions (what will happen).
If you’re not still with me, this series may not be for you – and don’t sweat it. But if, without me providing further assistance, the preceding stanzas intrigue you – you may yet derive value from this model, and apply it as you see fit.
The series begins with “The Ordinary World” – Orwell (Blair) vs. Huxley, and a far older and lesser known progenitor: Pugna Porcorum.
